New England Country Day School
Kindergarten Program
"School learning and competence will be best facilitated when children are engaged in active, meaningful, goal-directed cognitive enterprises." (Peck, Joanne T. McCaig, Ginny, and Sapp, Mary Ellen 1987-1988, KINDERGARTEN POLICIES What is Best for Children, pg. 77)
New England Country Day School's Kindergarten Program provides the opportunity for young people to experience education in a stimulating and creative environment. The Kindergarten Program is available to children five to six years of age. Children may attend the Kindergarten Program for a full day session from 9:00am to 3:30pm, or a half day session for either mornings 9:00am to 12:30pm, or afternoons 12:00pm to 3:30pm.
The Kindergarten Program's curriculum is "child-centered". The focus is on the development of the child's self-esteem and on fostering a positive attitude towards school. The program is designed to stimulate the child's natural curiosity about themselves, others and the world about them. At this level, the main objective is to ensure that each child is challenged and successful in his school experiences. The Program's curriculum supports each child's needs and interests through the use of age and developmentally appropriate activities. Weekly curriculum objectives are incorporated into all academic and social areas such as language arts and dramatic play. Special activities such as field trips and special guests reinforce concepts, while content allows the children opportunities to individually reach their potential.
