ASSISTANT TEACHER

Purpose:
To assist the teacher in providing a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment where self concepts are enhanced, independence is encouraged and individuality is respected in which a child can grow physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually.

Qualifications:
These qualifications are in addition to employment requirements.
  • High school or equivalency diploma and six (6) hours of Early Childhood Education, or two (2) years work experience in the field of Early Childhood Education.
  • Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.
  • Evidence of sufficient security and judgement to handle crisis situations.
  • Relates joyfully and sensitively to preschool children.
  • Exhibits sensitivity to children’s individual needs.
  • Knowledge or a willingness to become knowledgeable of the age group to which assigned.
  • Ability to employ age appropriate and positive discipline techniques.
  • Exhibits physical stamina.
  • Dependable.
  • Flexible in classroom routine and/or in occasional changes in work schedule.
