ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Purpose:
To provide leadership to the Center. The Assistant Director administers effective program in accordance with the philosophies and policies outlined for parents and teachers, provides referral services to parents, assists staff to working capacity, and supervises the day to day implementation of programs offered by the Center.

Qualifications:
These qualifications are in addition to employment requirements.
  • Must be 20 years of age or older.
  • Bachelors or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in an administrative capacity in the field of Early Childhood in an organization of comparable scope.
  • At least 1080 hours of documented supervised experience over a nine month span of time, including working with children in a program with these standards in Connecticut or another state, which program serves children of the same ages and developmental stages who are served by NECDS, and one of the following: a current center-based Child Development Credentials issued from the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition, or twelve credits in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited institution of higher education with approval from the Board of Governors of Higher Education; or approval by the Connecticut Department of Public Health as a Head Teacher.
  • Knowledge and experience in the fields of finance and management.
  • Experience as a preschool teacher.
  • Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.
  • Shows evidence of good judgement to function in a crisis situation.
  • Ability to supervise constructively.
  • Demonstrates a joyful approach to children.
  • Sensitivity to the individual and group needs of children.
  • Knowledge of children's physical, emotional, and developmental patterns.
  • Ability to recognize and to record significant individual and group behavior.
  • Demonstrates the ability to discern when an enrolled child may indicate the need for special medical and/or psychological evaluation and help.
  • Ability to employ age appropriate and positive discipline techniques.
  • Exhibits physical stamina.
  • Dependable.
  • Flexible in occasional changes in work schedule.
  • Sensitive to the individual needs of parents.
  • Ability to communicate with parents effectively.
  • Sensitive to the individual needs of staff.
  • Ability to communicate with staff effectively.
  • Demonstrates professional skills in the area of curriculum development, in-service staff training, program goal setting and lesson planning.
